Whitney Pockets Petroglyph Site 1

All mileages and coordinates given on this web site are approximate.  Use common sense and caution when following any directions.

At approximate mile 21.1 is the end of the pavement (W/pt #003).  A short distance beyond the end of pavement, the road divides.  If you go straight, you end up heading towards Devils Throat; if you turn left, you go to Whitney Pockets 1.  Because of the camping in this area, it can be extremely crowded on weekends and holidays, which is why I try not to visit this part of Gold Butte except on week days.

Left Photo: This is one of the many areas where people camp near the "end of the paved road".  Right photo: The arrow on the right is the road to Devils Throat and the arrow on the left is where you turn to go to Whitney Pockets Petroglyph Site 1 (W/pt #006a and b) which is about .55 miles from the end of the pavement and to the left.

Left Photo:  The CCC dam (W/pt #004).  Right Photo: At waypoint #005 turn into the camping area and park.  The arrows point to the two petroglyph sites (W/pt #006a & b) which are a short walk from where you park.

Left Photo:  Left arrow points to petroglyphs (W/pt #006b) and the right arrow points towards petroglyphs (W/pt #006a) just out of frame, but is visible in the right photo.  Right Photo: Petroglyphs (W/pt #006a).
