Whitney Hartman the Falling Man Petroglyph site

Whitney-Hartman Petroglyph Sites

AKA "The Falling Man Site"

All mileages and coordinates given on this web site are approximate.  Use common sense and caution when following any directions.

Start off at waypoint #007 and zero your mileage.

The turn off of the pavement to the Whitney Hartman Petroglyph Site is approximately 19.7 miles from where you zeroed your mileage when turning on to New Gold Butte Road from Riverside Road back near I-15.  At the turn for Whitney Hartman (W/pt #007), once again zero your mileage.

The photo below is the turn off from the pavement (W/pt #007) to the Whitney Hartman Petroglyph site.  The big red rock in front of you is the back side of Whitney Pockets 2 (W/pt #009).  The arrow is pointing to the road you need to follow and the sign is a "limited use" area sign.

Left Photo: At approximately 1.23 miles is a fork in the road (W/pt #011) use the left fork.  Right Photo: The arrow points to the petroglyph site in the distance.

Left Photo:  The arrow is pointing to the New Parking area 1 (W/pt #012).  The old parking area has been closed off and you now have to walk an extra .3 of a mile or so.  Right Photo: The jeep is parked at the "New Parking area 1" (W/pt #012).  This is where the old road has been closed, so you will need to park here and hike the old road (the arrow) to "Old Parking Area" (W/pt #013).  If this is your first time to this site, I recommend that you park at this location and start your search for petroglyphs from the old parking area.

Left Photo: The old road.  I recommend taking this route to the old "front entrance" to the petroglyph site.  Right Photo:  Another shot of the old road to the original parking area.  The right arrow points to the approximate location of your destination.

Left Photo:  You are arriving at the old parking area.  The arrows point to the general locations of a few of the petroglyphs.  Right Photo:  The old parking area (W/pt # 013) and the original front entrance to the site.

The photo below is the original parking area (W/pt #013) and the arrow points to the first rock art that you will probably encounter.  There are petroglyphs all the way around this boulder.  I highly recommend that you start here especially if it is your first visit.  There are a lot of petroglyphs and some really beautiful panels at the Whitney-Hartman site, so to see this site properly bring a lunch, lots of water, and spend some time.  There are a lot of boulders, nooks, and crannies to explore, so take your time and search everywhere and don't forget to mark your GPS where you parked; it is easy to get turned around at this site.  To view some of the petroglyphs at this site, see the link below.

A couple of extra things: If for some reason you cannot or do not want to park at the "New Parking 1" (W/pt #012), you can continue on the same road that you drove in on for another half mile or so; you will be on the back side of the Whitney-Hartman site, and almost directly across from the old parking area (see map).  You can park at or near "New Parking 2" (W/pt #014).  Many people camp and make entrance from this side of the site, but until you are familiar with the site, it is easier to start from the "original parking area".
