Driving Directions for "The Shooting Gallery"

The starting point for the mileage and GPS coordinates is the Chevron Gas Station in Alamo, Nevada.  See topo maps for GPS information and mileage.

This trip should be made using a GPS with the "tracking" turned on.  This will lay down a route/track to follow on the way out.  Also if you have access to mapping software such as National Geographic Topo Maps or Delorme Topo Maps, the roads you will be traveling are on both maps.  With the mapping software you "lay in" more waypoints to upload to your GPS to make it easier to follow the correct road.

"Shooting Gallery - Getting There" maps (GPS) - To be used with the info below

Left Photo (Wypt# 2): Turn west off of Hwy 93 onto S. Richardville Rd, then left on Canyon Road.  Right Photo (Wypt# 4): The pavement ends and the dirt starts on Canyon Road at approximately 3.05 miles total from the Chevron Gas Station. Take the middle fork or the right fork. They come back together in a couple hundred feet.

Left Photo:  Heading west on Canyon Road towards the point.  Right Photo:  Take the left fork.  The right one will end up at the same place, but the road has more sand.

When you see this view, you are on the correct road and the "Gate" is only a short distance.

Left and Right Photos (Wypt # 9): Both photos are at the "Gate".  The gate is at about 8.41 miles from the Chevron Gas Station.

Left and Right Photos (Wypt #10): About .3 of a mile beyond the gate you will come to another fork in the road.  Take the left fork up and over the hill.

Left Photo:  After you have reached the top of the hill, you will level off in the valley pictured below in the left photo.  You can see the continuation of the road that you are on in the distance.  Right Photo:  This next section of road until you get up and over the other side of the hill is subject to wash outs.  When you get part way up the hill, you will see evidence of where the water uses the road as a channel when it rains.  This section of road can be very hazardous if wet, so please use caution if it has rained in the previous few days.

Left Photo (Wypt #14):  After going up and over the top of the hill pictured above right, you make a "hard right" into the wash pictured below.  Right Photo:  After making the hard right, you are in the wash/road leading to the parking area and sign-in kiosk.

(Wypt #15) You have made it!  There are BLM maps in the kiosk.  Currently the maps provided by the BLM have the locations of 12 sites within "The Shooting Gallery" and the coordinates provided by the BLM are in UTM 83/84.
