Disclaimer to keep my butt out of the proverbial wringer: Check with multiple sources to make sure all your information is up-to-date and accurate. Do not rely on only one source (such as our web site) to be the final word. Contact the BLM, Forest Service, Park Service or whomever, to get the most up-to-date road and trail information. Things can, and do, change very rapidly in the desert due to road construction, flash flooding, and other natural and/or man-made causes. Do the prudent thing and check before you venture out. Also please view the information on our "A Few Tips for Hiking in the Desert" page.
The turn off for Black Point is approximately 2.5 miles south of Alamo, Nevada. If you are traveling north on HWY 93, it's about 250 yards north of mile marker 36 or .8 of a mile south of mile marker 37.

The most obvious road sign that you will see at the turn is for Buckhorn Ranch Road. Buckhorn Ranch Road actually goes to the west; you need to turn east, which is Alamo Canyon road. You will stay on Alamo Canyon Road for the next 13.6 miles.

Left Photo: Immediately after turning east on Alamo Canyon Road you will see the gate / cattle crossing. Zero your mileage here. Right Photo: This is just inside the gate. Ninety percent of the road will look like this, except for a small section a couple of miles ahead. You will see several small side roads between here and Black Point, don't take them. Stay with the "Main Graded Road" all the way.

Left Photo: Is for reference only. When you get to Waypoint 1 this is what you should see. Right Photo: Is also for reference only. This is Waypoint 2. Stay to the right and with the "Main Road"

Left Photo: At Waypoint 3 you will see Black Point and Delamar Dry Lake in the distance. Right Photo: This is the Black Point Site which can be found on all 7.5 minute topo maps. The "Black Point West Site" is located on this side (west side) as you are approaching the point about 100 yards from the point. Black Point East Site is on the far side of the point behind the corral. See maps for details and GPS info.

Left Photo: Black Point Site. Right Photo: Black Point West Site.

Just beyond the "point" you will probably see the rusted out car, and short distance from there is the Black Point East Site. When traveling from the "point" to the East Site, follow the tire tracks that are near the base of the hill.

The Black Point East Site is located in the boulders behind the corral.
